School-Work Alternation:
Project Contact

Motivational boosts for a happy life through work, art, fun, nature, respect for the environment, and respectful and constructive integration into the system in which one lives.

The goal of the project is to engage students in a series of activities that will lead them to understand that work, like everything else, should share a single common denominator: love for oneself and everything around us. We'll start from developing CRITICAL THINKING to discover that our body is an energy-saving machine that often fails to recognize the mind’s deceptions.

A clear example is food and movement. Is it easier to sit continuously in front of a TV or phone while eating and drinking, or to engage in sports and avoid treats and sweets of all kinds? In the Western world, the answer is nearly unanimous. Today, obesity, where laziness and overeating combine, has become an endemic disease.

The project lasts six days, with eight hours of activities each day. Students will participate in various work and recreational activities, aiming to blur the boundaries between them to spark a virtuous cycle, with the sole purpose of living a full and true life.

Day 1:

8:30 am: Welcome and introduction to the activities and their goals.
9:00 am: Straight into action. For technical reasons (clay drying time), we’ll begin with clay work using the coil technique to create typical shapes from our region. Students will receive technical sheets of Apulian vases made by an archaeologist. Starting with sketches, they will move on to creating artifacts with the potter’s wheel and various techniques like molding or coiling. Each student will create items that they will then decorate, and these will enter the economic circuit, available for sale in dedicated stores and online to complete the activity cycle.
1:00 pm: Pizza and work—unlimited pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven as work continues.
3:00 pm: Decoration of the created objects using ancient Daunian techniques. 5:00 pm: Farewell with pieces set to dry and a theoretical awareness of the work completed.

Day 2:

Body awakening through a nature walk to trace ancient Apulians. Visit to the Pietra Caduta necropolis and gathering of cultivated and wild vegetables, aromatic plants, and seasonal fruit for lunch.
11:00 am: Construction of primitive ovens for firing the clay artifacts.
1:00 pm: Swim in the pool under expert supervision and a “0 km” lunch made with everything gathered.
3:00 pm: Completion of the oven construction and preparation for firing the created objects.

Day 3:

Excavation techniques at the Pietra Caduta necropolis: in search of history and treasures of antiquity, led by professional archaeologists. Lunch break with a swim in the pool and unlimited pizza baked in a wood-fired oven.

Day 4:

Archaeological guided tour by Dr. Sandro Sardella. Eight hours of sports and culture across all ancient sites of Canosa. Preparation of a map for archeo-walking enthusiasts with descriptions of sites and travel times between locations.

Day 5:

Decoration and firing of created artifacts, theory and techniques of eco-friendly construction through building an archaic house.

Day 6:

Opening of the kiln, finishing of the pieces, and artistic refinements. 1:00 pm: End-of-course celebration with lunch, pool, and a non-stop DJ set.

By the end of the course, we aim to have produced historically significant decorated terracotta pieces. Students will also gain an introduction to techniques for selling and marketing artistic products. We will also create a digital and printed map for archeo-walking enthusiasts, with travel times between sites. This map will be presented at various archaeological and experiential tourism conventions.

The cost of the activity is 80 euros per student. Professional tutors will support students throughout the program.
